For the 40th year, the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles “digs up the dirt” on Hollywood history - including a few scandals - via a living history walking tour of the 124-year-old Hollywood Forever Cemetery at 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard. Visit the gravesites of early Hollywood stars, movie moguls, and the pioneers who shaped Los Angeles, to hear fascinating tales about their lives (both their accomplishments and misdeeds) from historians and living history performances.
Tours will commence every 20 minutes, rain or shine, between 9:00 and 11:00 AM.
Please note that if you try a tour time and you cannot purchase tickets, it is sold out. Try another time. As of 10/14 tickets for the 9:20am tour is NOT sold out.

The 1929 historic Hoffman Candy Company and 1931 Silberberg buildings are BOTH scheduled for consideration as Historic Cultural Monuments at the same meeting of the Planning and Land Use Management Committee. This is the third phase in the process to preserve these buildings and public opinion counts! The case for the buildings will be heard on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at a virtual (Zoom) meeting that begins at 2:00 pm PT. Throughout the 1930s and into the late 1940s a wealth of Art Deco DWP buildings, Distribution Stations, Receiving Stations, and Customer Service Centers, were built all over the Los Angeles area. Most of these still stand today and only a few have been substantially changed. Some remain hidden treasures often unseen while others hide in plain sight. Architect Jeff Bissiri will take us on a virtual journey through Los Angele to take a look at these community enhancing structures.

Join us for a virtual book talk with Christopher Long, author of “Jock Peters | The Varieties of Modernism Architecture and Design. Peters is best known in Los Angeles for the Bullocks Wilshire interiors that he designed., but he also had a stint in the fledgling motion picture industry. Soon after Peters immigrated to America in 1922, he became a set designer for Famous Players-Lasky (later Paramount Pictures), working under the famed Hans Dreier. In 1927,

Board Member Steve Luftman will facilitate the presentation. (This is a different designation than the local Los Angeles Cultural Historic Monument status we are seeking simultaneously.)
