Every building has a story and this one is about the tower that marks the gateway to the Miracle Mile district at Wilshire Blvd. and La Brea Avenue. Join us for a free virtual program about the history of the E. Clem Wilson building with preservationist Steven Luftman. The Art Deco Society of Los Angeles is in the process of trying to landmark the building through the City of Los Angeles’s Historic Cultural Monument program.

The organizers of the 1925 Exposition des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes invited renowned Paris jewelers Cartier, Boucheron, and Georges Fouquet among others to bring their most modern creations to the Exposition. Jewelry historian Lisa Schoening will speak about the treasures displayed at the exposition and the jewelers who exhibited there - many who are still in business today!

The 1929/30 E. Clem Wilson building has been submitted to the City of Los Angeles for consideration as an Historic Cultural Monument. We are now in phase one of this quest. You can send an email to the Cultural Heritage Commission to express your support of this nomination.
Born into the Art Deco Age, author and photographer Arnold Schwartzman has savored his many visits to Paris, beginning with summer vacations spent with his aunt from the age of 11. In this live, illustrated presentation based on his latest book Paris Art Deco, Arnold will share his appreciation of Art Deco style as together we wind through the boulevards of La Ville Lumiere. We are thrilled to return to Los Angeles’ own Art Deco jewel, the 1929 Bullocks Wilshire building - and where better to hold a celebration of Paris’ Art Deco, than it’s french-inspired Louis XVI room!

For the 41st year, the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles “digs up the dirt” on Hollywood history - including a few scandals - via a living history walking tour of the 125-year-old Hollywood Forever Cemetery at 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard. Visit the gravesites of early Hollywood stars, movie moguls, and the pioneers who shaped Los Angeles, to hear fascinating tales about their lives (both their accomplishments and misdeeds) from historians and living history performances.
Tours will commence every 20 minutes, rain or shine, between 9:00 and 11:00 AM.
Please note that if you try a tour time and you cannot purchase tickets, it is sold out. Try another time.
Any available tickets on the day of the tour, will be sold for CASH ONLY at the door. Member tickets are $25 and non-member tickets are $35. Exact change is much appreciated.

Union Station was the last great railway station built during the golden age of rail travel – an exciting site of colliding community histories. The Station was designed by the father-and-son architect team of John and Donald Parkinson with an innovative blend of Spanish Colonial, Mission Revival and Art Deco architecture now commonly referred to as Mission Moderne. The stunning facility was completed in 1939 for a reported $11 million and opened with a lavish, star-studded, three-day celebration attended by a half million Angelenos.
