In addition to the innate artistry of the design of James Oviatt's private quarters, in each room you will find an exhibition of objects that exude Art Deco and Streamline Moderne style.

On exhibit are fine, decorative and industrial art objects including original materials from the 1925 Paris exhibition itself and original items from the Oviatt Penthouse, such as a painting that was thought lost, but was recently discovered, an original glass element, furniture and an image of the Penthouse bar on the exhibit floor where it was purchased in Paris in 1927! Exuberant Art Deco design is expressed in the textiles, graphics, housewares, appliances, sculpture, clocks, powder room essentials, perfume bottles, car hood ornaments, men's and women's clothing and accessories, cameras, radios and more on display! Never has a style permeated so many aspects of daily life! The design wasn’t limited to the elite. Many items were designed in the Art Deco style, for the masses. Everybody had a chance to lead an Art Deco life!

We are also pleased to welcome author and vintage skyscraper expert Mark Houser who will show off four large drone-scan canvases depicting some of Los Angeles’ great Art Deco towers, by digital artist Chris Hytha. photos of Los Angeles Art Deco buildings. This is the first West Coast appearance of Houser and Hytha's "Highrises Collection" after exhibitions at the Chicago Architecture Center and the Art Deco Societies of New York, Detroit, and Phoenix. These canvases will be auctioned after the event, so you can take home your favorite Los Angeles skyscraper!

If you choose to visit Monday, April 28 you will be in the gallery on the actual 100th anniversary of the opening of the Paris Expo)!

We mark the 100th anniversary of the Art Deco style from the April 28th opening day of the six-month long 1925 Paris Exhibition. Although no style suddenly appears fully formed, it was at this World’s Fair that moderne styles developed in various countries were first brought together on the world stage. This universally influential style inspired architects and designers who attended the Exposition to manifest their own interpretations at home. In Los Angeles the 1928 Oviatt building was directly influenced by the Exposition. Its interior is one of a handful of remaining local interiors with early Art Deco design.
