Ever wonder how those gorgeous period costumes for films are chosen? 

Go behind the scenes at Eastern Costume with Pamela Shaw, Assistant Costume Designer, Academy Award winning film THE ARTIST!

At this exclusive event, attendees will hear Pamela Shaw, Assistant Costume Designer for THE ARTIST, describe how a Costume Designer goes about designing costumes for a period film & how the costume department preps.

She will also share hot gossip and funny stories about costume shooting secrets on set. You’ll never guess what secrets make the magic!

THE ARTIST (2011) was nominated for ten Academy Awards and won five, including Best Picture, Best Director (Michel Hazanavicius) and Best Costume Design (Mark Bridges)!

Our venue host, Eastern Costume is a premier costume rental facility, supplying the Motion Picture & Television industry with costumes and props all over the world. After Pamela’s talk, attendees will have a chance to see behind-the-scenes at the costume warehouse, view period costumes and maybe even see some costumers in action.

This event will be offered in two sessions 2:00 PM and 3:15 PM. with a maximum capacity of 20 persons per group. It is limited to members of the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles.

Additional details about entering the building will be sent to ticket buyers . Limited parking. Carpooling is recommended.

POLICY:

Attendees may photograph individual pieces in the collection, however, NO photography is allowed of the warehouses at large

There is a warehouse cat, so the doors can’t be left open. Attendees may not bring their own animals into the building.

Attendees are asked to stay with the group and not access any areas that are roped off for employee access only, unless invited by staff.

About Pamela Shaw:

Pamela Shaw is a designer and instructor of Costume and Make-up in the Theatre Arts Department of Santa Barbara Community College. Professionally Pamela has worked in theatre, film and television. She was the Assistant Costume Designer for THE ARTIST, the 2011 Academy Award winner: Best Picture & Best Costume Design, designer Mark Bridges.

Her other credits include Becky’s New Car, Present Laughter, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, August: Osage County, Avenue Q, Through the Fire (SBCC), Ghosts, Lion In Winter, Crime & Punishment (Ensemble Theatre Company), Home Siege Home (Ghost Road Ensemble at Inside the Ford), Doubt, Lonesome Traveler, Steel Magnolias, (The Rubicon Theatre), The Elephant Man, Children’s Hour, The Rocky Horror Show, Lope de Vega’s Lo vingido ferdadero (Loyola Marymount University), Camping with Henry and Tom (McCoy Rigby Entertainment), and the annual Holiday Parade for Universal Studios Theme Park. She is co-author of the definitive costume resource guide, Shopping LA: The Insiders’ Sourcebook for Film & Fashion, 3rd edition. Ms. Shaw served two terms as Vice President of the Costume Designers Guild, Local 892 and is currently a Trustee for the Western Region Board of United Scenic Artists, Local 829.
