Art Deco Centennial Celebration at the Oviatt Penthouse

  • Oviatt Penthouse 617 South Olive Street Los Angeles, CA, 90014 United States (map)

Presented by the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles & Olive & Grand.

The Art Deco Society of Los Angeles is pleased to partner with Olive & Grand, representing the Oviatt Penthouse, for a one-of-a-kind celebration of the Centennial of Paris’ International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts. This is the only celebration of the centennial in Los Angeles!

The centerpiece of our three-day celebration is “Art Deco Tous Les Jours,” an original exhibit of period objects from toasters to textiles, illustrating the influence of Art Deco style on the aesthetics of everyday life in the 1920s and 30s.

Your ticket includes the exhibition and interaction with the curators as you explore the exquisite Art Deco interior of the private 1928 Oviatt Penthouse, discover photo opportunities all around you and enjoy socializing with friends old and new on the open air terrace - while sipping French Centennial Cocktails at our no-host bar.

In addition to the choice of six different entry times to enjoy the exhibition on its own on Saturday and Sunday, you can choose to view it as part of a soiree that will enable you to more fully immerse in Paris 1925. You will have ample time to experience the exhibit during the soirees, as well as to enjoy a live French cabaret performance and more! There are also exhibit hours on Monday, April 29 for those unable to make it over the weekend.

We mark the 100th anniversary of the Art Deco style from the April 28th opening day of the six-month long 1925 Paris Exhibition. Although no style suddenly appears fully formed, it was at this World’s Fair that moderne styles developed in various countries were first brought together on the world stage. This universally influential style inspired architects and designers who attended the Exposition to manifest their own interpretations at home. In Los Angeles the 1928 Oviatt building was directly influenced by the Exposition. Its interior is one of a handful of remaining local interiors with early Art Deco design.

Please no sportswear, t-shirts or other casual attire. We understand that sometimes it is impossible to get home to change, so no one will be turned away, but we appreciate the effort.

The evening soirees are cocktail (or evening) attire only. Dressing in classic, chic all black is always an option.
