Calling all shutterbugs! In the spirit of the old camera clubs, we’re going on a photo safari on Saturday, May 8 at 10:30 AM in the historic Beverly/Fairfax Neighborhood.
This year for preservation month we’ve challenged you to post Art Deco & Streamline Moderne architecture from various neighborhoods around the Los Angeles area on your social media (31 Days of Deco). We thought it would be fun to hit the streets together to take some photos for the challenge and learn a little bit about the neighborhood - all while staying outside and socially distant.
We will walk about a mile on Beverly Boulevard to visit 8 - 10 sites, including the Fairfax Theatre (a building we are attempting to preserve) and the former site of the Pan Pacific (the topic of our May 23 lecture).
After we’ve worked up an appetite, we will head over to historic Farmer’s Market for an open air lunch.
Where to Meet:
We will meet in front of the Fairfax Theatre at 7901 Beverly Boulevard (at the corner of Fairfax). We will spend 10-15 minutes there before we begin our walk east.
Details:
This is not a formal tour, but we promise that it will be educational! All are invited to come along to sightsee, with or without a camera.
There is no cost to attend this event, but you do need to register.
Wear comfortable shoes and anything that you need for being outdoors like hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, parasol.
Social distancing will be observed and all participants will be required to wear a mask while walking with us. We will not be entering any buildings.
Parking:
There is paid parking in the parking lots at the Farmer’s Market (enter on Fairfax and make a purchase for a validation) and the Post Office at 7610 Beverly Boulevard. There are also meters along Beverly Boulevard. There is a paid parking lot just north of the corner of Beverly and Fairfax just south of Diamond Bakery. This is the closest parking to the theater. It is on the same side of the street as the Fairfax side of the theatre.
There is two hour parking on the side streets that run north south, just north of Beverly Boulevard. Check signs to make sure it is okay to park.
There is no metro stop in this area. There are bus lines.
If you are interested in spending the day in Beverly/Fairfax, we should mention that this is the home of Remix Shoes, Hotel DeVille Eyewear, Modernica Furniture and several antique and vintage stores, not to mention, two large thrift stores.
