Cocktails in Historic Places® at The Grasshopper

  • The Grasshopper 136 East Anaheim Street Long Beach, CA, 90813 United States (map)

We have been invited to The Grasshopper in Long Beach for our April gathering! Driving a vintage car to The Grasshopper? Let us know ahead of time, so we can save you a spot in front!

The Grasshopper boasts an exciting menu of vintage style cocktails. It is housed on a property with history that dates back to the 1920s when there was a private residence on the site. Sadly, that home was demolished in 1960 and the existing building was built in 1961 as Davenports, a cocktail bar and steak joint, (legend has it there was a cow on the roof top). By 1981, the building was re-purposed as a Chinese themed cocktail bar and restaurant called the Dragon Inn.

Again, in 2001 it was repurposed as the La Fiesta Bar. In 2019 John Godin purchased the business and embarked on a complete six month remodel that involved new electrical, plumbing, bathrooms, doors, neon signage, booths, stools, tables, monkey pod bar top from Costa Rica and all new back bar cabinets inspired by an art deco watch display case, plus painting and other finishes. Much of the art displayed in the bar, are giclee prints by Vladimir Tretchikoff approved by the estate.

We look forward to conversations about historic Los Angeles and Long Beach, vintage clothing and cars, home restorations and much more!

This gathering is free, but you are on the hook for food and beverage you wish to consume. Traditionally, the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles members gather once a month in an historic building with a bar, to socialize and revel in the beauty of historic architecture. It is our duty to patronize businesses in historic buildings! We welcome interested persons to join us. This no-host cocktail gathering is open to members and non-members alike, and no reservations are required to attend.

PARKING
There is parking on Anaheim Street and on Locust both north and south of Anaheim.
