The Art Deco Society of Los Angeles and Hollywood Heritage are pleased to present a matinee screening of the legendary LETTY LYNTON (1932) starring the iconic Joan Crawford, at the incomparable 1929 American Legion Hollywood Post 43 Theatre!
A new 4K restoration of an Art Deco pre-code film presented in an Art Deco building is our idea of the ultimate way to pass a Summer afternoon! Add to that onscreen presentations on Adrian and a fine art photo exhibit featuring George Hurrell photos, plus a pre-event Joan Crawford Coffee tasting and donuts on the deck at the Hollywood Heritage Museum (details on that here).
Join us for a film that was unseen for 90 years until Warner Bros. premiered the restoration at the recent TCM Film Festival. In 1936, LETTY LYNTON was pulled from distribution when two playwrights won a lawsuit that claimed that the film too closely resembled their 1930 play “Dishonored Lady.” For nearly a century, fans of Crawford and the Adrian gowns that she wore in the picture, lamented the loss of this important entry in film and fashion history. 1932 was a big year for Joan. She appeared in GRAND HOTEL, POSSESSED, LETTY LYNTON and RAIN.
How better to describe this tale of a socialite torn between two lovers, than to quote M-G-M from their original advertising when they first introduced audiences to LETTY LYNTON in 1932.

Directed by Clarence Brown LETTY LYNTON stars Joan CRAWFORD and Robert MONTGOMERY with NILS ASTHER, MAY ROBSON and LEWIS STONE.
PRE-SHOW: There will be a video introduction with Scott Eyman, author Joan Crawford: A Woman's Face and George Feltenstein, Warner Bros. Discovery Library Historian. Adrian historian and author Richard Adkins will appear live to introduce the film. Enjoy an exhibit of production stills and portraits of Crawford on display at both Post 43 and the Hollywood Heritage Museum. We suggest coming early to see the exhibits. We have a terrific onscreen pre-show planned so we highly recommend being in your seat by 12:30 PM.
FASHION PARADE: Guests are highly encouraged to wear the biggest puffed or ruffled sleeves imaginable! There will be an onstage fashion parade and a group photo op starring YOU! Please note that to participate, you must come early. The photo will take place at 12:50 PM before the film introduction begins. Vintage or vintage inspired daywear will be applauded, but is not required.

LETTY LYNTON Fine-Art Photographs will be on display at the Hollywood Heritage Museum July 18 - August 2 (see the Museum website for hours of operation). These photographs from studio negatives shot by George Hurrell were restored and printed by Mark A. Vieira. They are available for purchase.
PHOTO BOOTH:
One of our talented members made a set of ruffly, poofy sleeves to wear in a photo op over whatever clothes you are wearing. You can come by and one of our volunteers will help you take a photo wearing them.
EXPLORE THE LOBBY OF POST 43:
The lobby and Trophy Room will be open during the event today. Admire the historic 1929 lighting fixtures - two of them were restored by ADSLA funding! Other floors will be off limits today except for the restrooms downstairs. Due to time constraints with the Hollywood Bowl, we are unable to offer tours today. Post 43 is still an active American Legion post for veterans. The American Legion was formed after WWI by an act of Congress, to provide Veteran services. This is the second home of the Hollywood chapter. Given its location, its history is tied to the Hollywood film industy.
These George Hurrell photos were restored and printed by photographer, historian and author Mark Vieira. Some photos will be on display at Post 43 on the day of the Letty Lynton screening (sold out), but a larger number will be at the Hollywood Heritage Museum July 18 - August 2.
MARK VIEIRA:
Mark has been a professional photographer since 1969, printing vintage Hollywood studio negatives in a traditional darkroom until 2019. He now uses Photoshop to restore and print both 1930s photographs and the modern prints he has made from studio negatives. His digital fine-art prints honor the artists' vision with new clarity and depth. He does not use AI in his digital restorations. He is also the author of an assortment of Hollywood history books.

MUSEUM:
The Hollywood Heritage Museum is across the street from Post 43 and will be open 11am - 3pm on the day of the screening. The Museum cannot accommodate the entire audience for the film, so advance tickets are required. Purchase them online. Admission is $15. For full hours of operation, see the museum website. This screening is dedicated to Casey LaLonde, Joan Crawford’s Grandson. We began planning Joan’s “return to the screen” just a few weeks before his sudden passing. Casey had intended to come to Los Angeles to introduce the screening, plus one in Palm Springs on the same weekend. Casey was the keeper of his grandmother’s legacy. Raise a cup of Joan Crawford coffee in his memory today! The trio of Hollywood Blends coffees inspired by Casey’s grandmother are available at the Hollywood Heritage Museum.

When tickets sell out we keep a waiting list. Members of the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles and Hollywood Heritage will rise to the top of the list. Available tickets come from ticket holders who can no longer attend and wish to sell their ticket. All are verified buyers. Email us to be placed on the waiting list by July 23, 2026.
IF YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND We respectfully ask that if you make a mistake when purchasing a ticket, that you contact us, not your credit card company. When you dispute the charge it costs us a hefty fee. You get your money back and we have to pay a fee. We are a nonprofit organization and cannot afford to absorb costs related to “chargeback” claims. When you do this, you get your money back, and we have to pay fees (and staff costs) because you initiated an unwarranted fraud claim with your credit card company. We are paying for you to change your mind.
Fees will be added at check-out. Hollywood Heritage members, please refer to the email sent to you for your code to purchase a discounted ticket. If you are NOT a member of either organization, where it says "do you have a code" simply say NO and the system will allow you to buy general admission tickets.
Seating is first come, first serve.
No refunds or exchanges, but you are welcome to sell or give your ticket to a friend. They must bring your electronic ticket bearing the bar code. You can forward the email to them. Or, let us know you wish to sell a ticket and we will connect you with a waiting list buyer (if there is one). We keep a waiting list for sold out shows. We cannot connect you with a buyer on the day of the screening unless you can come in person to the venue.
No pets will be permitted at the event. Food and beverage is not allowed in the theatre other than water. You may not film/photograph the screen at any time during the presentation.
The reference photos above show the front entrance to Post 43, signage, the elevator and the parking lot. Ticket holders will line up in front of the building on Highland Avenue before doors open. You can’t miss the front of Post 43. There is a large cannon in the front as well as beautiful blue, white and gold tile.
PARKING:
Event parking is free in two different lots. You must move your car by 3:00 PM if you park in either of these free parking lots. At that time, the lots close except for Hollywood Bowl parking. If you leave your car there, they will charge you the going rate to exit (or you will not be able to get your car out). See below for further information. If both lots are full, there is a large parking lot at the Ovation complex at the corner of Hollywood and Highland. It is more than a short walk to Post 43 and there are traffic lights to figure in, so you should allow ample time to arrive at the Legion Theatre.
Parking at American Legion Post 43:
This lot is reserved for those requiring an accessible blue zone parking space or those who have mobility issues. To access this lot, drive into the narrow driveway on the South side of the Post 43 building. To assist with wayfinding, to the north is a Belmont Senior Living Community. An attendant will show you where to park. Please note that if you are unable to climb stairs, you should tell the attendant that you wish to use the elevator. If there is still space in this lot close to the event start time, you may check to see if there is space, even if you don’t have a mobility issue.
Parking at the Hollywood Heritage Museum:
Parking is available in the parking lot outside of the Hollywood Heritage Museum. Use the address 2100 Highland Avenue to navigate to Lot D (between Odin and Milner). If you come from the south, do not park in the first area you see, closest to Milner. Drive through that lot to approach the Museum (grey wooden structure) and park in front of it. Please heed the parking directions given by Museum personnel when you approach the lot. You will not be stack parked, but there is a certain configuration that allows for the greatest number of cars to park. It is a very short walk across the street to Post 43. If you are unfamiliar with the Museum location, we encourage you to look it up online. The Museum is set back from the street.
Public Transportation:
The Hollywood and Highland Station is the nearest Metro Stop. It is a short walk to Post 43. There are also bus lines in the area.
