The Art Deco Society of Los Angeles and Hollywood Heritage are pleased to present a matinee screening of the legendary LETTY LYNTON (1932) starring the iconic Joan Crawford, at the incomparable 1929 American Legion Hollywood Post 43 Theatre!
A new 4K restoration of an Art Deco pre-code film presented in an Art Deco building is our idea of the ultimate way to pass a Summer afternoon! Add to that, an introduction by Joan Crawford’s grandson Casey LaLonde and some other surprises to be announced!
Join us for a film that was unseen for 90 years until Warner Bros. premiered the restoration at the recent TCM Film Festival. In 1936, LETTY LYNTON was pulled from distribution when two playwrights won a lawsuit that claimed that the film too closely resembled their 1930 play “Dishonored Lady.” For nearly a century, fans of Crawford and the Adrian gowns that she wore in the picture, lamented the loss of this important entry in film and fashion history.
How better to describe this tale of a socialite torn between two lovers, than to quote M-G-M from their original advertising when they first introduced audiences to LETTY LYNTON in 1932.
"TOGETHER AGAIN in another M-G-M hit! Ever since beautiful Joan Crawford and Bob Montgomery appeared together in “Our Blushing Brides” and “Untamed” we’ve been swamped with requests to co-star them again. You’ll be delighted with the result.
From the novel by Marie Belloc Lowndes Beautiful Joan Crawford gives what many critics believe to be the most impressive performance of her career. Faced by her former lover and her husband-to-be she takes a course which leads to the very brink of tragedy. Once again Joan Crawford mingles tears and laughter, heart-throbs and thrills—again she captures the hearts of millions of her screen admirers! You’ll compare it with the most thrilling picture you’ve ever seen! Nils Asther’s return to the screen is something to cheer. He’s great in this romantic drama!”
Directed by Clarence Brown LETTY LYNTON stars Joan CRAWFORD and Robert MONTGOMERY with NILS ASTHER, MAY ROBSON and LEWIS STONE.
Guests are highly encouraged to wear the biggest puffed sleeves imaginable! Vintage or vintage inspired daywear will be applauded, but is not required.
