Presented by Olive & Grand, Paper Moon Vintage and the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles

We’re having a spirited vintage Halloween experience at The Oviatt Penthouse in collaboration with Olive & Grand and Paper Moon Vintage! We are thrilled to announce that you will be the first to see the new vintage Art Deco chandelier that has just been installed in the bedroom! You can learn more from our room docents and Oviatt historian Marc Chevalier.

Nicole Marsak’s vintage 1920s and 30s Halloween Costume (and accessories) Collection will be on display along with spooky entertainment, music, cocktails and treats.

You will come away with some fascinating history about the building and its builder James Oviatt, some fantastic photo opportunities in the beautiful Art Deco penthouse and other vintage style “treats.” Spirits will run “high” at our no-host CASHLESS cocktail bar! Ask for a “charmed” version of your drink and we will add some vintage Halloween flair as a keepsake for a few bucks more.

We are pleased to welcome the magic of the Cosmic Romantics and Matt Schnittker, magic lanternist to our stage!

There are three timed entries since the maximum capacity of the Penthouse is small.

Come in costume! Prizes awarded at each session for Best Handmade Costume and Best True Vintage Costume.

Scroll all the way down for a schedule of the festivities!

ENTERTAINMENT:

Spooky Oviatt Stories:

The Oviatt Building is a spooktacular venue of spine-tingling stories. Oviatt historian Marc Chevalier will relate tales of unexplained circumstances on the Hallowe’en Revelry Main Stage at specific times during each session.

Séance with the Cosmic Romantics:

The Cosmic Romantics perform world class magic with the flair of an old vaudevillian duo. They are regulars at the Magic Castle in Hollywood and recently fooled their childhood heroes on the CW's Penn & Teller: Fool Us.

The Cosmic Romantics perform their Séance Show regularly at upscale hotels and venues around Los Angeles. Elizabeth and Eric lead a dramatic (but lighthearted) 30 minute séance to contact a haunting spirit. The performance includes their powerful "second sight" mentalism routine as well as a Victorian-era style "Spirit Cabinet," with plenty of comedic moments mixed in with shocking magic along the way.

Closeup Magic:

The Cosmic Romantics will dazzle you with closeup magic in various areas around the Penthouse.

Magic Lantern Show:

Magic Lanternist Matt Schnittker will dazzle you with his antique Magic Lantern Show, one of the earliest forms of cinema! Shows will take place inside the Penthouse during daylight (shows at 3:15 & 5:30 PM) and outside at 7:45 PM.

Vintage Wheel of Fate Game:

Step right up and play a game that involves ingenuity, speed, skill and plain old fashioned fate. Win tickets for a chance to win fabulous prizes at our grand drawing. Winners must be present to win.

Scavenger Hunt:

Seek clues in the Oviatt Penthouse to fill your scavenger hunt card. Then enter it in a drawing to win a fabulous prize before the clock strikes (see the time for your session on the schedule below). There will be a docent in each room to tell you about the room and to give you a sticker on your playing card when you find the clue.

Room Tours:

Learn about Mr. Oviatt’s Penthouse from docents in each room. They will tell you about the artisans who created this Art Deco masterpiece and all about the Oviatt family’s time in the Penthouse.

Costume Contest:

Our DJ Dr. Nate will announce the costume contest. All contestants will come to the stage to show off their costumes. Prizes will be awarded for Best Homemade Costume and Best True Vintage.

ATTIRE

There will be a costume contest for best period appropriate Handmade Costume and Best True Vintage costume. Everyone should get into the spirit with some type of Halloween costume or themed clothing. You are encouraged to wear your own vintage or vintage inspired Halloween costume with some restrictions. Costumes must soft and fit close to the body as the spaces are tight. This isn’t a good event to wear a hoop skirt to or a robot made of bulky boxes. No full head masks or any headgear that obstructs vision. No body paint that could come off on surfaces. Suggested costumes are witches, vampires, devils, cowboys, clowns, royalty, cats, gypsy, ballet dancer. Think of costumes that would have existed in the 1920s and 30s or come as your favorite Old Hollywood star.

ACCESSIBILITY

Please note when buying tickets that due to the historical nature of The Oviatt, some areas are not fully accessible. While the interior is ADA compliant and has handicap restrooms, there are five steps leading to the outdoor deck that may require assistance.

The restrooms are on the 11th and 12th floor (under the Penthouse). They are accessible by stairs or you can get back in the elevator to ride to the 12t floor. You must make the operator know that you are going down, if you wish to ride back up. All elevator trips to the Penthouse require an operator.
