The Fairfax Theatre's Cultural Heritage

Fairfax_Theatre_Historic_Photo.jpg

The Art Deco Society of Los Angeles and Save Beverly Fairfax are simultaneously seeking local Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument status AND National Register designation for the historic Fairfax Theatre (corner of Beverly & Fairfax) in the Beverly Fairfax neighborhood. We do deep research when we write an historic monument application and we want to share some forgotten history about this neighborhood as it ties into the theatre and Jewish local history that doesn't start with Canter's Deli!

Immerse in some local history with the author of the nomination, Steve Luftman. His illuminating and impactful presentation about the theater’s importance to the Jewish community as they settled in the Beverly Fairfax area in the 1930s, actually changed the Cultural Heritage Commission's mind about the theatre's worthiness for landmark designation.

Join us for some local history with this free illustrated presentation that features deep research into the development of the Beverly/Fairfax Kosher Canyon.

We would love to hear your stories about this area if you have memories from the 1940s - 1970s to share. We will have a discussion following the presentation.
