Please join us for a swellegant, elegant virtual lecture celebrating the influence of Art Deco era Paris on the life and music of Cole Porter, one of America’s most iconic songwriters. Singer, theater historian, and ADSLA member Mary Stanford will trace the path of Porter's 40 year creative love affair with the City of Lights through video clips, historical commentary, and even a little behind-the-scenes gossip.
Cole Porter made his mark on 20th century music with a magical blend of wit, elegance and naughtiness, which he developed while living in Paris during the wild and creative 1920s. We'll learn the stories behind classic Porter tunes including "Let's Do It (Let's Fall in Love)," "Begin the Beguine" and, of course, "I Love Paris." We'll also uncover some forgotten gems that deserve to be remembered among his greatest songs. Cole Porter’s legacy continues to shape popular music and how Americans think of Paris to this day. Join us and experience why his tunes were so timeless.
